aspen bedding scent?

quick question: i use aspen bedding and i just switched brands to "premier pet" (got it at Petco). anway it has a scent to it when i open up the cage, almost like a sterile, rubbing alcohol smell. i thought that this is odd considering the other stuff that i used had no smell whatsoever. is this normal or should i stop using it immediately?

Do you already have it in the cage? I use aspen and have never had that problem. I would air it out and if the smell remained then I would maybe consider taking it back.

I think I know what you mean. I use aspen shavings for my rats, and it does have a slight chemical type smell. But it is only the scent of the aspen itself, probably.
