Yay powers out because of snow >:(
So my powers out because of the snow any ideas on how to keep my snakes warm if it gets too cold by the time power comes on? I've never had power go out before and I am a little worried now

Big Buddy heater for the snake room. Otherwise I have had to load everyone into tubs and pile everyone into the car and run it with the heat on while sleeping in the car. It sucks. Also have piled everyone into tubs and stuffed them in a bed with 40 hour UniHeats under everyones tubs on 1 side and then I crawled in the bed to warm up everything under the blankets....again it sucks. No way around it, power outages suck.

One or two can go into snake bags and get stuffed down your shirt. Up to half a dozen, put into bags + tubs, put tubs in bed under your covers, and you + SO + kids + dogs + cats get in the bed and provide heat.
More than that, and you need backup heat that doesn't need electricity, or a generator.

My cats would try and eat them well toothless does I'm always yelling at him to get off my racks or tubs he has even opened racks by sticking his arms and paws to the back and pulling luckily he only opened empty ones and the power came back on 7 hours later and I turned my heat up right away and their all fine

Personally I'd buy a backup generator. You can get a 4000 watt generator on e-bay with free shipping for only $229. It's a life saver, I have a 4000 watt and a smaller 800 watt just in case. I also have extension cords and power strips and run my fish tanks, refrigerator, freezer, and snake rack. I also crank up the generator every year just to make sure it works, last year it had a gas leak, luckily I caught it and fixed it before a real emergency. It's cheap insurance. Be sure to get a four cycle instead of a 2 stroke where you have to mix the gas and oil, those are not very reliable. My generator is whisper quiet.

Also, there are other emergencies, like fire, flood, bug infestation (my old house was taken over by aphids)... I highly recommend everyone go someplace very inexpensive, like BigLots or WalMart and purchase the LOWEST thread count pillowcases (minimum 2 per snake), zip ties (10x the number of snakes) and some type of transportable, secure tubs that will hold the bagged snakes and some emergency items based on your snakes. (I have a lightweight dolly that holds my bins. I use bungie cords to secure them.) Put holes in the bins. Make sure it all fits in your car with whatever else you need to take...kids, other pets, spouse, supplies for all packed into more bins with holes...lol...
I moved into a Motel6 for three days with my son, 2 collies and 20 snakes (that they didn't know I had packed on the dolly). I jacked the heat in the room to 80 as a compromise to my species, could rotate them into clean pillowcases if they pooped, rotate them with water bowls, rotate them into the bins that transported them and all our supplies for watering etal. I used a cheap wooden baby gate to block off the dogs from the snakes so I could put their bags on the floor. And we camped there safe and sound.
And horrible as it sounds, have a fast evacuation planwith your priorities in place, for dire emergencies (like it's your house on fire). How many can you get out how quickly. Practice it and time it. I have a dedicated viv room and keep my dolly ready to go in the closet.

My power is out from a thunderstorm. I'm not sure how long it has been out and we didn't know until my wife got up for work.
The reason we didn't know is because my Generac kicked on and we never missed a beat. The only inconvenience I have is I have to turn the fan in my snake room back on as it turns off on the brief delay of the power switch.
Thank you Generac!
I highly recommend a generator. The stand by like mine are not cheap but you can't beat the piece of mind that came with it. Being home or way I know my snakes have power ready to go without any effort on my part. That's a good feeling.
The smaller options are nice to have too but they have their limitations. They are certainly better than nothing though. Honda makes some really small and quiet ones.

Take a look in my photo gallery. You need to get a cooler (drill two small holes into it). Some pillow cases, and some shipping heat packs. Live in Chicago, freezing here. Lost the power a while back. Happens more then it should. Load everyone in bags, into the cooler. Add heat packs. You get the idea. Don't know why more people don't have a back up plan. Specially in cold weather states. Any other questions, I'll be more then happy to elaborate.
