Ball python head shed and eye caps still on- help?
So on black friday I got myself a snake and all the tank stuff and such. At first we had a few things wrong but we fixed it!(I got rid of the heating pad since I couldn't find a thermostat. Now I just have a red bulb heat lamp. It's much easier to moniter it, and it keeps it around 80 in his tank.) but now I've come across a new problem. His first shed in my care! Its a week and a half into it, and he has everything but one of his eyes and the top of his head shed off. I've been cleaning his cage frequently, as he also has been finally pooping. I have a screen top, with aluminum foil fixated over half the tank, and we have a bit of trouble maintaining the temperature. Usually I spray it, and it goes up into the 90s, then an hour later it's back at 57! I recently taped down the aluminum foil, so its not just loosely set on top of his cage(hopefully it'll help, but I did it this morning so I cant tell if it is yet). But the head and eye cap thing is still worrying me. I have lots of stuff for him to rub on(he has three hides in his cage. A skull, a branch-log, and a wooden half-log. His water bowl sits under the aluminum foil). Should I wait it out and just continue on with keeping his temperature? Or should I try to soak him? I'm still rather nervous when it comes to holding him, so I hope I dont have to take the shed off myself. I'm scared I'd hurt him. What should I do?

I also noticed with his other eye he has some white in the corner. Is this a bit of shed that may of gotten stuck(do snakes even have whites in their eyes??)? He's obviously very stressed by it, as he keeps rubbing his head against the glass, completely ignoring his hides I put in there. I'm very worried.

I can't edit my posts rip. He almost has the bad one off! I put a container with some papertowels dampaned with warm water. He sat in it and though he's rubbing his eye on the side of the cage now it seems like it worked some, as the eyecap is peeling off!

Maybe I made this thread too soon. He's got the eyecap off since I put the container with papertowels in. Now its just his head and the eyecap attached to the rest of the unshed skin. Which is all getting off rather easily. He's rubbing against the papertowels too, instead of his cage glass. I'm excited and very happy. This humidity seems to be dropping a lot slower now as well, since I taped down the aluminum foil.
