Cooked?
We thaw our rats overnight in the fridge. Then, we warm them up in water and blast them with the hairdryer.
Bit of a rush tonight so I ran them under hot water after they had thawed in the fridge over night - I was able to have my hands in the water stream but there was a bit of steam.
A patch of belly fur came off the weaned rat pup....does that mean it cooked? I don't see how it could cook if it wasn't hot enough to burn me. It still seemed raw.

I don't see how you could have cooked it. I use water that I can not touch when thawing and warning and have never had a rat cook.

Ok thank you! I worried when the hair fell out. I thought that appended when it starts to cook.

I throw all my rats, quails, chicks, and rabbits in a bucket of warm water and let them sit an hour. Then just refresh the water with warm water every hour as the water cools off. After about 3 hours, everything is ready. Although I did have one small rat rip in half when my boa grabbed it and the guts popped out. The boa seemed to love it but I was less excited as it just meant I had to clean up the mess after, including a boa with blood on her lol.
So my advice is check on the little food sooner and if they are flexible and warm to the touch, they are probably ready lol.
To cook a rat would take really hot water for a long time. I mean you basically would have to boil it.

Re: Cooked?
I warm my rats up by leaving them in a Ziploc bag, during the day and a couple of hours prior to feeding put the bag (and rat) in some hot water to bring up the temperature. Works great for my snakes (although my Brazilian Rainbow has the worst aim that I have ever seen - misses every time!).

Had this happen a few times including a couple that popped open. Snakes didn't seem to mind at all

You should try it. You haven't lived until you've cooked a rat.
