Jake and his insane feeding response made for a funny story this weekend

So like every Saturday night I fed Jake this weekend. And in typical fashion I did it like I always do. Bring thawed rat in to the room, heat up with a hairdryer, slide open the top of his tank and dangle rat inside for the "kill".

Well Jake had other plans. Like normal about 5 seconds after the hairdryer is on the rat, Jake starts to go insane in his tank. So with rat on the tongs, I slide open the lid and dangle the rat inside. Well Jake must have been confused maybe because the whole room was scented now because he went right past the rat and proceeded to jailbreak out of the lid. I dropped the rat in the tank and at the same time as I'm trying to gently keep the lid as closed as possible, I tried luring him back in the tank with the tongs. That didn't work. Now Jake is sitting fully on the top of the lid, in full feeding mode and every move I make with my hand to and open the lid and get him inside, he is stalking it like it was his dinner. Finally when it looked like he was about to try and find a way off the tank and I quickly grabbed a towel and corralled him back in to the tank.

But the ordeal wasn't over. Dopey was now still eyes on me thinking I'm the food and meanwhile he's sitting on top of the rat. I finally distracted him to one side of the tank with my one hand outside the glass, grabbed the rat with tongs with my other hand and he finally found it and struck.

Mental note to self: Maybe use the hairdryer on the rat in a separate room so the whole room isn't rat scented.
