Help! Ball python acting strange??
Hi my female ball python who I've had for a few months now and is a very sweet girl, loves coming out and doesn't mind being handled etc.
well she's been staring at me through the glass for ages and every time I moved she'd strike at the glass! And she'd keep opening her mouth constantly and sort of rubbing her face on things likes she's starting to shed (which she isn't btw she not long had a perfect shed) she's totally off, this isn't her.
I personally think it's somehow the chicks I'm feeding her? She had 2 chicks a day or 2 ago and last time I gave her chicks in the middle of the night she made a horrendous noise and again her mouth kept constantly opening :/ so I'm now just keeping her on rats no more chicks just to be safe. She's now gone back to acting normal and has gone in her hide where her heat mat is. I know people will ask and her humity and temp is all fine, I need to go in a give her fresh water but I'm not gonna do it right now as she might strike and I don't wanna stress her out.
Its almost like she was trying to be sick when she opens her mouth?? I'm not sure it's defo not a yawn though.
thanks for any advice if she does get worse or isn't better I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow cause she's scaring me a little I just hope she's okay bless her

Re: Help! Ball python acting strange??
I know this sounds ridiculous but my first thought is that your snake was passing gas. Did you find any poop in her cage after this display of behavior? Sometimes when they have to pass gas they will open their mouths very wide and then pass gas. I had this happen with a big female normal I had late at night. She had her mouth wide open and was making the most ghastly sounds I have ever heard. I went to check her tub and their was a huge poop mess everywhere. I cleaned up her tub and put her back and then everything was just fine.

This did cross my mind but there's nothing it's so strange whatever's going on, she's seems to be acting normal again :/

It may just have been her passing gas. If you are really concerned you could always take her to a reptile vet and describe what has been going on.

Its scares me 😭 lol hopefully it was just passing gas but it was the striking at me that worried me she never does that. She's fine now though

Re: Help! Ball python acting strange??
My normally docile Boa has struck the glass at me when he was in feeding mode. It was after he ate his rat but I guess he wanted another helping. After a day or so, he was back to his normal self. They tend to get possessed when they are in feeding mode LOL
