    Glitter vs. Glow

According to Eric Alan, there are some morphs that glitter and some morphs that glow, and the longer you're in the business, the more you can discern the difference for yourself.

One of my "glow" morphs is the spider gene. I. LOVE. SPIDERS.

I know, I know... they've been around forever and they aren't particularly hard to find, nor hard to make. Maybe they aren't particularly exciting to some. But dang... they throw some beauty into other complexes that just makes me want to immediately buy them. When I had a larger collection - pied, HRA, pinstripe, butter, etc - my little spider girl was always my favorite of the bunch. She had a bad wobble and would corkscrew around to eat, but she was so pretty in person, with creamy whites and buttery browns, and she had such a sweet personality. I miss her a lot!

As soon as I get my reptile room up and running, I plan on getting a few spider complexes.

With that in mind... what's everyone's favorite spider mix??

    Give the spider some love!

I absolutely love my Maja (Bumble bee) she was my first morph and exquisitely beautiful.

Strange that you say that, but she too, has the BEST temperament ever. None of mine bite. None of mine seem overly shy, flighty or stressed. But there is something about Maja.
And no, I'm not one of those purple glasses, glitter and butterflies type of people. I know reptiles aren't legless little pets that are happy to see us...lol.

But still, she is just unique. Always so calm and curious. I can't even put my finger on it, but she is just special.

Thankfully she has no bad problems at all. No cork screwing, or upside down business. The worst I've seen is that she sometimes misses the ft rat at first try. Bad aim...

I'm torn about breeding any animal with known defects. But honestly, we shouldn't breed ANY morphs if we were so against this, because in a way they are all "defective genes". Doesn't mean they all have "problems" but we breed for anomaly.

And spiders are FAR FROM the only morphs with issues. They are just one of the ones with a defect that is easily "seen". Who knows what goes on inside many of the others. Only some problems are visible. Cork screwing, kinks, "no eyes". Some die in eggs or soon after hatching. Some can't reproduce because of defective reproduction systems (desert females). And again, who knows what all is "not quite right" with many, many others, that we simply can't tell visually or by behavior. That is just the dark side of playing around with genes for the purpose of producing a visually pleasing or different animal, with no regards to other consequences.

All that said. I love Spiders. The Ball Python kind In all combinations. They seem to make everything prettier..

I love Spider Clowns. That headstamp is just so appealing to me. Unfortunately I've chosen to keep spider from my collection primarily because of the wobble. I just don't want to end up keeping a bunch of bad wobbles because I'm too afraid to rehome them to someone who might not know how to care for them. Also because I have a lot of pied in my breeding project and spieds only get the head pattern. With my luck id finally produce my first albino clown pied and it would have spider in it so I'd never get to enjoy it!

    Re: Glitter vs. Glow

This is my spider girl Charlotte

Personally, I really like the spider pattern. One of my main focuses is going to be producing the brightest, cleanest spiders I can. After that I'd like to add clown

Luckily so far I haven't really noticed Charlotte having a wobble. I do have a jaguar carpet python who has the wobble pretty bad sometimes but she is still an amazing animal. She does everything she's supposed to and it really doesn't seem to affect her quality of life so it doesn't bother me too much.

Super Orange Dream Spider Yellow Belly:

He's one of the best examples of what I meant when I talked about glitter vs glow. When I first saw this morph come across my Facebook feed, it was all I could think about for days. It's one of many reasons why Orange Dream holds a special place in my current collection. I knew I had to put a plan in place to make myself one. As you can see above, I got lucky on my first try this year and hit on it.

I really do need to get better pictures of my Spider Clown girl. It'll have to be a few days though - she's pretty tied up at the moment.

    Re: Glitter vs. Glow

Absolutely beautiful pics...is a "headstamp" common for the Spider gene? I ask because I just acquired a beautiful female "Spider"... She has these markings "stripes" under her chin and around the end of her tail that are really neat and she also has a bright yellow top..
