    First Rat Pup Feeding Success!

    Hi Everyone!

    Happy Friday!!!!!!!

So last night I fed Broomhilda her first Rat Pup (broomy is 137g and this is what I was told would be a good idea to do)

The Pup was a little smaller than the largest part of her body, indicating that it should be sufficient.

Typically I was doing a 5 day small mouse feeding schedule. Roughly two per feed.

Now I'm going to do one rat Pup, but I'm unsure of the length. Since broomy is still a baby, should I continue the every 5 day? Or move to 7?

I really don't want her to become obese. Like at all. But really want her to be healthy.

Would it be bad going back to larger mouse in a few weeks because I heard they have less fat? Trying chicks to switch it up and give her variety?

Feeding a baby once every 7 days is sufficient, in fact I wouldn't recommend more than that. So long as the prey size is correct (which it looks to be) you should have no problems with her being healthy.

How long should she stay at Pup size? At what weight I guess should she move up?

Every five days is fine up to about the 500g mark. Then stretching it out to every 7 days is best... that's my strategy anyway.

I've heard of it done that way too (feeding every 5 days up to 500mg) which I agree would be fine as long as you don't continue to feed every 5 days after that.

So if you know her weight just keep an eye on it, or if you don't you can buy a scale, or feed every 7 days. Whichever works for you.

Initially was going to do every 5 days, until she upto 250 (I think that's what I saw Deborah post on a post a while back). I really want to see what the people think before than base my decision on that.

I know what hungry looks like for my girl (I saw it last night for sure) so part of me wants to do every 5, and the other part wants to do "when she's hungry" but that would take more time in rat prep, and it could be super late, and sticking to a schedule would just be better.

It was crazy to see her move up in size like that, this one was WAY bigger than the small mouse she was eating before. Pretty cool stuff!
