Thermostat Question (What is the best? How to install?)

Hi there! I'm absolutely new to racks & have no idea on how they work, nor a thermostat.

Anyways, I recently purchased a melamine rack (8 slots) from somebody on Craigslist, it came with heat tape already installed... I am interested in a Herpstat, but which model would be the best for a beginner? I also would like to know how to "install" the thermostat, as I have no idea what any of the cords mean on the back of the rack.

I can add photos if needed.

I just realized i was not clear in my last post. With the rack your going to want to install the temperature probe to the middle of the rack by attaching it directly onto the heattape. The heattape cord plugs into the thermostat and you set to the desired temperature and it will regulate.

But since you're buying it second hand, you will definitely want to monitor all of the individual tapes to make sure it's still all heating accurately and evenly.

What are the colorful things connected to the wire? How do I connect a Herpstat to it? I'm interested in the Herpstat 1 or Herpstat 1 Basic, are they any good? Should I invest in a different one?
