heat tape probe placement?

i currently have my probes tape directly to the heat tape in the middle slot of each one of my rack, today i read to tape the probe near the heat tape but not directly on. I also read never to use foil tape directly on the heat tape to tape down probe. I currently use foil tape in some racks and electric tape in others. Im 99.999% sure this isnt true but wanted to make sure. Thanks in advance!
