So how many people had their phobias of other animals cured by owning a snake?
I used to have a phobia of spiders, but since doing research and defending snakes and constantly explaining how phobias work (and how it doesn't mean that the animal is actually dangerous, so to speak) to other people literally demolished my crippling fear of spiders.
Just earlier, I was able to simply encourage it into my hand and deposit it outside.
(Side note... I got called to the ER to save the nurses from the spider... there weren't any male nurses around, apparently, who usually do that kind of thing for them... so I guess the next best thing is a security officer....)

I have also developed more of an appreciation for spiders since getting into reptiles. I am still freaked out by small spiders. I try to move them to the outdoors if possible. Something about their fast and erratic motion gets to me. I find I do not mind slow moving T's in their enclosures, but I cannot touch them or clean their cages. Part of me would like to someday own a fire or flame leg T, but I also don't want to keep anything I cannot handle. My ex was able to handle them and I could enjoy their appearance from afar.

Forget that, I still dislike spiders. They had one that was on my truck mirror, so I figured by the time I got home it would of flew off. Negative. It was still there waiting. As if that wasn't bad enough I was trying to take some pictures of it, and the thing jumped to my phone then when I went to drop the phone it jumped from my phone to my hand. My first initial reaction was to smash it with my other hand, then I realized if it was going to bite me then it would of done that by now. So then I sat down on the tailgate and played with it for a bit. It was actually pretty neat. I still dislike spiders, but at least I didn't get bit.

Re: Gateway Pets
I hate spiders. Mostly because I wet myself every time I see one.
