Switching from tubs to rack
I'm in the process of getting my new rack up to temps before moving my snakes, I picked up the 3 high sub adult rack from Cserpents and moving them from tubs with the UTH taped to bottom. My question is how high are your thermostats set to get them up to a hotspot of ~90 degrees? In my tubs I could set them to 92 and the tubs are almost perfect, in the rack it's been sitting with the thermostat set at 96 and not getting anywhere close.
Same room and using a herpstat

Re: Switching from tubs to rack
I just set up an Iris sweater box from Reptile Basics with a Herpstat 2 today, and it is set at 91, and is giving me a consistent hot spot of 90. I am brand new to this whole tub system, so hopefully someone with some more knowledge can help you out.

Odd, the only thing I'm thinking is that the heat tape is recessed on mine and may need to be hotter on mine to heat the tubs...???

How long did you have it setup before getting a your needed temp? I bumped it up to 100 degrees on thermostat and still not getting much over 80 degrees in the tubs

Mine has recessed heat tape, and within 30 minutes or so it was up to temp. Its been running about 10 hours now, and has stayed dead on 90.

Crazy, mines been on all day and now set at 100 degrees and the insides of the tubs get to about 80 degrees. When I pull the tubs out and read the temp on the tape its reading the same as the thermostat.

I have the same problem. I set my thermostat initially at 93 hoping to get a hot spot of about 90. I found I was getting nowhere close. I kept bumping it up until I reached the highest limit on my thermostat (108) and it gets the middle rack to 92 hot spot (I taped the probe to the middle slot) and the top and bottom to like 88-89. I figured it was just the cheaper thermostat I'm using which is a Jump Start from Amazon. BTW I'm also using the 3 high 28qt tub from CSerpents.

Must be that I need to bump it up more, I let it run all night and it never got me more than 80 degrees. I guess I'll bump it up a few and see where it gets me

What is your heat element tape or UTH pad and are the tubs sitting on the heat source? I know you said its recessed? So is there a gap between the tub and the heat source? Also the reading you are taking in the tub that is the surface temp of the hotspot not the ambient air correct? If your heat source is reading the same temperature as your thermostat but the surface hotspot of the tub is much lower than you are having significant heat loss somehow. Any pics of the set up?

Yea I'll get pics when I get home, the rack has heat tape and there's is a gap between tub and tape (tape is recessed in rack) and I am using a laser to check temps of hot spots. My only guess is the the gap between tub and tape losses a lot of heat, just hate the idea of setting my thermostat much over 100 to get needed hotspot
