    Very active female

I have approximately 2 year old female bp. She has been very active since I took her in about a year ago. She was in a 20 when I got her but a bumped her up to a 40. It is a bit bare but she has her hide and temp and humidity is correct. She has been on one mouse from petco a week she has not refused to eat once. She has been very active since i got her. She comes out every night and roams top to bottom of her cage. She does seem to slow down for 2 days or so after eating as well as the winter months. She has never tried to escape she just slowely roams as if she enjoys it. She also likes going outside during the summer months twice a week and roams living room during the winter and when I hold her through out the week. Is she not getting enough food or should i consider it normal behavior. The activity also spikes near her time in heat. She also is always hiding during the day which i see is a good sign. She refuses to eat rats. And has a preference to white mice which is nice because they tend to be the biggest ones at my petco.

That's a cool snake! One small mouse per week for a two year old? That doesn't seem hardly enough at all. She should be on small or medium rats. I bet she can eat 3-4 jumbo XL mice per week. Do you have any way to weigh her? She is probably pacing the cage because she is hungry.

My Australian Woma python went on a feeding strike after I got him because he was all beat up in the mail, was really mean and then became really friendly after about four months but still refused to eat. I finally got him to eat live rat pups, it was the only thing he would eat. They were about the size of a small mouse even though he was 1400 grams. He ate one twice a week, hardly enough for a big boy like that. I finally got him to eat his first small rat this week, it was the size of his thickest part of his belly. This is the first time since I've had him that he actually stopped pacing his enclosure, I'm pretty sure he just wasn't getting enough food. You should be feeding a rodent as big around as the thickest part of your snake. Sometimes they won't take big rats like that and you have to feed several jumbo mice.

I have a 500 gram ball python that was starved when I got him, they were giving him a mouse fuzzy once a month and it looked almost like a hatchling BP even though it was a year old. Now at 500 grams he will eat 3-4 jumbo XL mice in one sitting. This week I just changed him over to small rats that I got from Rodentpro.com, I'd say one small rat is probably the same as 3-4 jumbo mice.

If I were you I'd try to feed 3 jumbo mice per week and see how he does. If he will take it then I'd order from an online rodent place, the shipping will cost you about $30 or so but for $100 total you'll get a bunch of mice much cheaper than any local store. I think the last jumbo mice I got were 0.69 cents each.

    Re: Very active female

I will try and find a way to weigh her I have been concerned about her getting enough but at the same time she has never jumped at the food like she is starved. When I feed her she pokes her head out and smells and slowely gets out and then chases her but never acted super hungry. I just recently found these forums and wanted to get more opinions as I was told from the time I got my first one that one would be enough per week for them as long as they weren't super small. I have never had luck with rats but may try again with her as well as getting a few mice for her tomorrow

The temp and humidity is the same as i was told I also clean her cage promptly after her passing along with complete new substrate every two weeks and deep clean of cage. The only thing different iv been finding is the feeding as you just told me. Iv always done my best to keep her happy and everything maintained so glad I'm finding out about under feeding her
