Hello from the middle of nowhere :D

Hello there, I finally joined as I found most of the info I needed came from here. I have owned many reptiles over the years from 3 Panther Chameleons, 6 Bearded Dragons, and 2 Corn Snakes.
Well now I own a Ball Python she was a rescue 2 months ago only weighing 40 grams from Petsmart. Now usually I don't get reptiles from there as I have very bad luck. My first Bearded Dragon I got there had MBD. Anyways fast forward 2 months and now she is 4 months old now. I have gotten her up to 100 grams still not ideal but you can no longer see her bones and loves to be handled. I also reinforced my love for reptiles and snakes in particular so I plan on getting a few more before the year is up.

it's horrible that getting an animal from petsmart or petco we have to refer to as being a rescue lol ~_~

Welcome.. That is a nice snake. Congrats and welcome.

However..it is not a rescue when you purchase from a big box store who is just going to replace it with another who will get the same crappy treatment. By making that purchase, you have succeeded in supporting petsmarts practises that leave alot to be desired. They dont care if that snake or any other animal dies in their care,bc they will just replace it with another and it didnt cost them much to begin with.

A rescue is just that.... Rescued from a bad situation, whatever that is (not a retail petstore purchase).

    Welcome!!
Wow, sounds like a busy house! The six beardies must make it especially fun.
Hope the little BP will keep growing for you.

She was a rescue persmart didn't charge me because they thought she wasn't going to make it. The guy at the reptile department gave her to me because I'm always there for live crickets and supplies for my reptiles and why would you want to let them suffer. I know they are just going to replace her with another but that is one less animal that has to die. If I didn't take her in she would have died and been replaced regardless.

We never know where we'll find that next special critter. I prefer to buy from respected breeders these days but my first kingsnake came from Petsmart and he's great. He's the reason I have 8 snakes now. All chain pet stores aren't bad but I'm sure some are better than others. The animals at the Petsmart near me seemed well kept and the employees gave good care information even though they don't sell thermostats. YMMV

Ya, i wasn't planning on getting any animal that day I had to run out and get a bulb from a beardie and god I hate the price of their mercury vapor bulbs. After I lost my corn snake I wanted to get another but never got around to looking for one yet. Then Piper fell into my care which I'm grateful for and now I love Ball Pythons and want to get more. Which I have been looking at some breeders like BHB.
