If you were to use just 1 then yes only on hot side. I personally would use 2, no reason just my preference. If I was to use 1 I would cover the front of the tub so the snake feels more secure being out of hide.

Yep, but if you want two there's no harm in doing so. A lot of people don't even use hides in racks at all unless certain snakes get stressed without one.

Many people dont use a hide in a rack because the tub is basically one hide.
If you use one, your snake will move it as needed.

Ain't that the truth, thinking about ditching all my hides nothing like playing the "So my arrangement wasn't to your liking?" Game everyday

Looks good to me. One of my females wanta it much more crowded that that, other wise she won't eat. Though I do have a couple of hides in all the tubs, probably not necessary, but they do use them more often than they dont
