    Getting into breeding

Hello all very excited to be on this forum with you all. Little background on me, I've kept various reptiles such as king snake, bearded dragon, blue tongue skink, Iguana and of course ball pythons. I've been researching for 3 years about breeding ball pythons and now finically I'm able to start my hobby. Wanted introduce myself to you all and ask for advice. Any advice anyone has for someone starting out would be great. Thanks all.

    Re: Getting into breeding

Welcome to the site! Great first post.

The best advice I can give is be ready to learn, which it sounds like you are after 3 years of homework! Beyond that, start with animals that you personally enjoy. A lot of your quality time together will be spent cleaning up after them, so you have to balance that with animals you can't wait to see - even when they're covered in poo. Females take at least twice as long as males do to mature, so start with hatchling girls and pick up your male(s) down the road. Once they're all up to size in a couple of years, you'll have the hands-on experience you need to begin breeding and the comfort level with the hobby knowing you've been able to stick with it.

    Hope this helps!

    Best regards,
    Eric

    Re: Getting into breeding

Thanks Eric I can't wait to start!!! Cleaning poop excited me now but I'm sure after I get a good collection I'll be over it lol. I'm starting to build my racks and get other things then I'll be looking to purchase my females. I've decide to deal with recessive ball pythons. I just love all of them from clown to asphalt, just what they do to a co dom/ dom or even other recessive's just intrigues me. Thanks TJ
