What size tub is appropriate for a hatchling?

I'm trying to get a set up ready to buy my first ball python and i've bought a sweater bin thats about 18 quarts or 5 gallons
is that an appropriate size to temporarily house a hatchling?
    if so for how long?

You can toss a hatchling in a 55g tank. That tub should be about right for a while, just make sure the hides are snug, and there are more than one and the snake will be fine.

Depends on the size of the hatchling anything under 100 grams will do best in 6 quarts usually until 200 grams but at 100 grams and over granted there is no feeding issue the animal can do well in 12 as well if the husbandry is optimum.

No matter how small the tank it will not provide the same security a tub will and tank are best kept for when the animal is well established and of a meaningful size.
