Ball Python thinks it's a Rattlesnake

Hello guys. So a couple weeks ago, I had my baby female BP move around on my bed while I did some reading. We were both pretty content, but suddenly, she started to slither very quickly, (or as quickly as a ball python can go at least) and the way she moved reminded me very much of a rattlesnake. If any of you have seen snakes on a plane, then you might remember how Sam L. Jackson was using his taser on some snakes, and my Ball Python was moving a lot like the rattle snake in that scene. Her head moving forward first, and the rest of her body following behind, staying in an s position. Is this normal? Has anyone else's BP done this?

As far as I know it's normal. Snakes move in different ways, some in an S, and others just straight and slow. She was probably just scared and needed a place to hide. Sometimes my girl does it too, especially if she didn't really want to be held in the first place. No need to worry!

My Corn Snake does that too. Slow crawling forward when content and then quick, rapid, tight movements when nervous. One of my Corns even rattled its tail when she was protecting her eggs from me!

Aw, now I feel bad that she was afraid of me. I'm really new to reptile owning, so it's good for me to find this stuff out. I just thought she was being silly.

I'm newer to it all too; I've only had my girl for about five months now. I don't believe she was scared of you, but maybe afraid of whatever was going on around her. As you probably know, ball pythons love hiding, so if something scared her or she got bored of being out in the open, she may have just moved quicker so that she could hide, although she may have been interested in something and moved like that to check it out! But you're right, and she could have just been doing it to be silly. But I would keep letting her out like that, as I think its good for them. Good luck on your new BP, they're curious and relaxing animals to have, not to mention the constantly adorable things they may do.

Thanks for that. It made me feel better, and I certainly enjoy my BP. She is easily one of the coolest, nicest pets I've ever had. She eats like a champ, and has never shown a bit of agression towards me.

I've had a lot of animals, but I defiantly have to agree that my pet snake is the coolest, and one of the nicest. I'm glad that yours is such a good eater too. Besides refusing to eat F/T, my girl has never denied a meal from me, but probably just because she was so underweight when I had got her from a friend. Same here about the agression, she even lets me pet her head nearly every time I take her out. I would defenitly get a snake from a petstore if they were all easy, no matter what other people say about them. I would rather rescue from a petstore than get a "perfect" snake from a breeder. As any problem that occurs in a petstore snake can in a breeder's snake. I hope everything continues to go well for you.

Thanks, and I'm glad you saved that little guy! The operator I got my BP from was houses with her little brother, and she was the most timid little thing in her first day! I'm just happy that I rescued her from those sucky conditions. I just wish I could have adopted her little brother too.
