    Redtail or Blood

Hello Im thinking about getting a larger snake than my ball and ATB, I love the colors of the redtail but Im not sure which is more easy goning and cheaper to feed I also have a chance to have a Redtail given to me so im thinking about going with the redtail. What do you all suggest and what can i keep a baby redtail in? Thanks Aaron

    Re: Redtail or Blood

Have you read up on IBD? (Inclusion Body Disease) that's the only reason I don't have a red-tail. As far as temperment blood vs. red-tail it's definately red-tail. Many people describe them as "legless puppy dogs." Red-tails are very docile and sweet and not prone to the same feeding troubles as BP's from what I've heard and read. They do get quite large, however, and it can be tough to tell if you've gotten a BCC or BCI. One clue can be saddle markings but I'm not sure how to tell for sure. That's about all I can give ya haha. Someone with more knowledge will post soon I'm sure.

jonah, if you really want one...order from alex hue, his collection is IBD safe. back when i had my balls, i had no problem with it.

depending on the sex of the boa, it could eat rabbits (if its a female). males would stay on rats though. i dont really no much about blood pythons,so ill keep outta that one

    Re: Redtail or Blood

Ok Aaron, not trying to be mean... but this post has me curious..

recently, you posted that you want to TRADE or SELL what you have now, because you are wanting to prepare for a baby and are worried about safety...

Why would you want to get a redtail or a blood python when you are worried now about the childs safety around what you already have?

    Re: Redtail or Blood

To not get a BCI based solely on the fact it can have a un commun disease as IBD is far from just. Sure there is a chance of IBD but the only reason you dont have one is becuase of that, is hard to believe

Dont be too worried about it,

    Re: Redtail or Blood

IBD is not a reason not to get a Boa or a python for that matter...yes pythons can get IBD also.

generally true, but only in GENERAL.

BCC and BCI can each have round, squared, or widows peak markings.

Widows peak are MUCH less common in BCI though.

Your best bet is find people who know and post a pic for them to see. (redtailboa.net)

    Re: Redtail or Blood

Well actually I've decided to go ahead and keep the reptile now, Im just wondering which would be better to keep redtail or a blood also what is the difference between a BCC and a BCI and how long can i keep a baby in a 20 gallon long tank? Also when would it need a 6ft. tank? And do you all keep reptiles and have kids also? and how do you keep them secrure in their tanks? Thanks Aaron
