Shipping FED EX
I guess this question is more for like those who have shipped animals via fed ex and know thier rules and such... is there a rule about shipping reptiles to a residential address? The reason I am asking, recently, I contacted a breeder of bearded draogns, there was info that confused me on thier site, so I enquired about it::
Me:
I was reading your shipping page, how are you shipping? In one line you say:
"We are now using FedEx to ship our bearded dragons. We do not knowingly ship live bearded dragon to a residential address. Plus we require the buyer to sign for the package when the delivery driver arrives. "
And in another line say:
"All orders are shipped via UPS Next Day Air (A signature is required - So someone must be available to accept the delivery.)"
Also, in the first line you state:
We do not knowingly ship live bearded dragon to a residential address.
Whats that about?
The reason I am asking this is, I am interested in a dragon you have... but need to clarify things you put on your site.
THEM:
Hello Jeanne..... first I apologized for still having the reference regarding UPS. We are now shipping our dragons via FedEx and have been very pleased
with their service.
The comment 'We do not knowingly ship live bearded dragon to a residential address. Plus we require the buyer to sign for the package when the delivery driver arrives' is just what it says. We do not knowingly ship dragons to residential address. For us there is no way of knowing if an address is residential and we require someone to sign for the package.
Hope this helps

Re: Shipping FED EX
In the case of residential addresses i beleive they can leave the package on the porch (potentially in the cold) - whereas a business address someone HAS to sign for it.
I may be in the wrong there - this was a cribnote explaination given to me by our Facility FedEx dude.

That's correct.

Re: Shipping FED EX
Yep Fed Ex is a bugger for just dumping stuff on people's front door. Had to save a neighbours very expensive computer stuff that was just left outside when it arrived a day earlier than expected.

Re: Shipping FED EX
Ours will routinely leave packages that require a personal adult sig (instruments, camera or computer parts $$$), and leave a HAH COME PICK IT UP N00B! form stuck to the door for packages that DON'T require a signature.
Go figure - no idea how I incurred the wrath of the parcel gods

Re: Shipping FED EX
Thanks for clearing that up guys! I was just curious if that was the issue (FED EX dumping off on porches) or if Fed Ex had some rule about delivering to homes live dragons. I guess the way they worded thier answer to me really was not that clear what he was trying to say. Only served to worry me that maybe there was an issue with Fed Ex (other than dumping off on porches). OK, I think my blonde moment has passed..... but I had to get others opinions on that.

Eww. I don't think I'll ever order from somebody with a policy like that. I understand it completely, but I'd much rather an animal got shipped to my house instead of where I work. The last thing I want to see a live animal parcel being lost for days where I work.

Speaking of which, schlyne, and surely you'll appreciate this . .
I had to have some slings delivered to work from Swift Inverts - when our big burly security staff found out what was inside, and back on my desk for the remainder of the day they nothing short of FREAKED. Such masculinity! Now they refuse to sign for or touch any packages coming addressed to me. There was nothing nastier than a flame-knee and versicolor in there to begin with
