Re: whats a good name for my baby snake
I like Greek, Roman, or Norse Mythology names.....
Zeus, Hera, Hercules, Aries, Loki, Odin, etc....
Do a quick search on the net for mythology names and you will get tons of options.

I really dig the mythological names as well - although you could also go the route of the incongrous and name it something like Fluffy, Curly etc. Look up translations for "ball" or "snake" or you could base it off of coloration - I guess it's the endless possibilities that make it such a task, eh?

Ya.....in that big ball python research paper (ha....I have the name here somewhere but I cant find it) they have some of the names that the local africans give to the ball pythons. I thought naming a bp after that would be pretty cool.....but I could not pronounce any of the names. You might want to give that a try.

On the other hand, you can name it Jaws, or Ripper or something.
I love naming animals. Among my snakes I have: Bodacious, Gracie, Meatball, Habanera, Lotus, George, Ditto, Demeter, and Diva.

It's all up to you. You can always try pulling up some baby name's with meanings attached and name it that way, or you can name them after characters in books and movies etc. You can also look up things in foreign languages, for example, my IJCP female's name means turtle in japanese..she has a marking on her head that looks like a turtle.
There are also a ton of python's out there named Monty, btw As for some sily names, I know somebody who named their bp Soccer.
Heck, most of my tarantula's have names other than the latin, usually rather silly ones.

I found that www.babynames.com helped alot. Because of the meaning of names option. I really like Nyoka because it is so unusual and it has the literal meaning big snake in latin american. You could also search for names to do with his/her personality. eg agressive, calm, relaxed and see what you come up with.
I hope this helps.

Or just jank the names right out of literature or other sources - Smynx got a trio a couple of mothers day's ago and named them Henry, June and Anais. True I might have tended towards something more distinguished like Snap, Crackle and Pop but hey thats just me . . .
