Snake Parking? (And a big announcement)
First of all, I am deliriously happy to announce that I now have 1.1 humans in my collection, as my daughter was born on Thursday morning!
Now here's the dilemma: i mostly handle Irwin at night, but now I need a way to "park" him quickly when the baby wakes up. I sort of do this now with a medium sized (fake)house plant. If I put him in it he'll just get comfy and chill for as long as I leave him there, but I've never left him unattended and I'm not really wild about the idea of doing so. Putting him back in his enclusure would take longer than I would like, and if the baby only needs me briefly I'd rather not cut off a whole night's handling session prematurely (I never take him out once I've put him back). Any suggestions?
1.0 Central American BI: Irwin
0.1 Jungle, het snow BI: Gimel
1.0 green albino, het granite Burm: Dr. Waffles
1.0 Betta fish: Convertible
1.1 cats: Tipitina (Tipi) and Professor Longhair (Fess)
0.1 Egyptian baladi dog: Toasty

Get a plastic storage bin with a lid that seals tightly, drill or melt a few air holes n the side, and you'll have a quick place to stash your snake. You can add substrate or hides if you want to make him comfortable, but even without them he should be fine in there while you tend to the baby. I have several backup bins like this that I use to hold my snakes while I'm cleaning their cages or feeding them.

Keep a snake bag or bin in the baby's room.

Congratulations on the new human hatchling!
As for parking the snake, what about putting a snake parking plant in the baby's room and thoroughly toddler-proofing it in advance? In other words, nothing a toddler or boa could knock over, get pinched by, stuck in, etc. I'm assuming you're snake is big enough not to be able to disappear down a teeny hole. So if you bring him into the baby's room and close the door, you should be able to just plop him down on the plant or wherever and he shouldn't be able to get into too much trouble while you tend to the baby.
If there's anything in the room he could hurt himself on, you'll have to do something about it eventually because a toddler could presumably also get hurt on it and babies tend to turn into toddlers. 😃
