Went to the vet today and..

We lacey has very mild scale rot plus some scrapes on her spine. Nothing serious. He told me the only humidity i should be concerned about is the hides and to switch my aspen shavings to a reptile mat cause aspen can grow mold. Anyone else have any success with the reptile mats?

I've never used them myself but I've heard that the mats can carry a lot of bacteria if not cleaned properly themselves. Is there a lot of moisture in her set up? If it's getting cleaned regularly aspen should be the best. Or at least that's what I've read/ been told. I hope your snake recovers quickly :'(

And nasty reptile carpet is great for scale rot. LoL
Your best bet until the rot is gone would be paper towels.

The only way aspen is going to mold is if it gets really wet and doesn't get cleaned for quite some time.

Wow! I didn't see the extent of the problem with Lacey. Sorry she has to go through this. It's good that she got screened by the exotic vet and the problem solved. Kudos to you. I second the paper towels over the mat btw. Good luck with her and I hope the healing is quick.
Stay in peace and not pieces.

Best wishes with your critter. I hope you get the scale rot cleared up quickly. I would put the snake on paper towels until he's better. I have 8 snakes. 6 are on aspen sani chips and 2 are on shredded aspen. I've never had any molding issues.
