How do you cur egg crate for incubation?

I bought a sheet of egg crate for the recessed lighting to use in my incubation boxes. I'm not really sure about how to approach cutting it. Right now my leading idea is good wire cutters.

Does anyone have any good suggestions?

Also, should I sand the edges down? I would imagine they could be a hazard to hatchlings.

I just use pliars to snap the connecting plastic to punch out the size I want.

Once they pip or you cut move them off the egg crate and onto wet paper towel so when they craw out they don't end up on the plastic.
