    More Newbie Questions

On another thread, someone said that snake mite infections are something that everyone gets. I don't have them now, but would like to know if they could also infect crested geckos, chahoua geckos, leopard geckos, or bearded dragons. I was planning to move the bps into the gecko room after they're done with quarantine, but if this is a possibility, I'll need to think of another plan.

Next question--I just gave Brickle his rat. He is one greedy ball python, and from the minute he smells rats nearby, he's moving around and periscoping until he gets his rat. He strikes incredibly fast, so I always use long feeding tongs. I brought the rat in from the opposite side of his cage, and he grabbed it and fell into his water dish wrapped around the rat with a really strong grip on it. I was afraid of him getting water into his lungs and getting an RI, so I put the tongs under him and moved him. He was still curled around the rat. Do I need to worry about this?

Also--what do you think of the name Callista for my normal girl? The name means most beautiful one, and I think she is very pretty and love her colors and markings, even though I'm guessing many bp people probably wouldn't look twice at a normal.

    Thanks!

Edited to add: I just checked Brickle. He ate his rat and is keeping an eye on the one that's warming up for Bubbles.

    Re: More Newbie Questions

Mites thrive in ball python conditions. The humidity they need isn't found in desert species like beardies and Leo's. I have a couple beardies and a bunch of Leo's (mostly hatchlings) and I have had mites and I have not seen one mites on them and they are all in the same room, I still check but never once have I seen one.

As far as the rat falling into the water bowl I wouldn't worry, help keep your snake hydrated lol but I wouldn't be doing it on purpose.

Callista sounds like a perfect name!! I'm sure it fits well!

Not everyone gets mites. I've been keeping ball pythons for quite a while, and I've never had them.

The humidity in the house is always kept around 50% for the geckos. I use two whole house humidifiers.
