Found a deal, and possible BP for sale in near future...

I have my Carpet Python in a rubbermaid right now knowing that one day I will need to move her into a bigger cage. I'm tired of seeing all these great deals online where all you come across someone looking to get rid of a cage or snake at a great price since that never happens in Utah due to a smaller number of Herpers in general. Well my day may have finally come!

Found an ad in the nickel classifieds here of a "Huge snake cage for sale with snake for $150 obo Must Sell!"

I called and it turns out they live about 50 mins north of me so that stinks but I got em to send me pics of the cage and snake (BP). Here is what they sent...

The cage is 4x2x2 although the first pic makes it look smaller. It appears from the phone conversations and from the pics that they aren't too good with their snake knowledge (which she readily admitted) and that's why they "must sell"

Anyways, I don't really want another snake, but will try to place it in a local adoption or something....get a friend involved....or just have another snake. Either way gotta check the BP's health etc first since it appears he wasn't in the best environment.

So yeah, to sum it all up, I'm pumped and will be making a lower offer tomorrow to see how eager they are to sell and hopefully have it by this weekend. Unless someone closer to them snags it first, but since there isn't much snake interest around here, and this ad has been in the paper that came out over a week ago and it's still available I'm hoping for the best.

So if you're looking for a BP in the near future keep your eyes open for a possible ad from me.

Nice - I'd be on that as well - though I'd be keeping the BP

At any rate you should be set just fine for your JCP housing. How big is it now?

It's still pretty small so I'll probably keep it in the rubbermaid for now so the huge cage doesn't stress it out. I may end up keeping the BP if it's hard to sell, that is if my wife says I can. LOL

Either way I won't be letting the BP out of my possession til I can be sure it's healthy. Cuz it's obvious from those pics that the cage has practically nothing. No hides, no belly heat, just that one heat lamp from what I can see.

Looks pretty healthy, considering its unknowledgible owners!
No retained shed that I can see. Hopefully, no RI or anything like that. I would give the snake a thorough examination before taking it home!

Definatly, Just make sure the little guy checks out ok, and keep him a great distance from your carpet. All in all you can probably work some nice wonders with that cage. By the sounds of it I bet that little bp will be happy to see you..

Yeah I'll keep ya up to date if I end up getting this to go through. She's been outta town for a couple days so I'm waiting to hear back from her again.

Re: Found a deal, and possible BP for sale in near future...

What an ordeal it has been trying to get a hold of this cage and snake.
After receiving these pictures I called her several times to try and talk her down a bit since she listed them as "$150/obo Must Sell" and there is no way I'm paying full price when it's listed like that! So I offered her $100 (through a voicemail message since she would NEVER answer) assuming she'd reject that and come back with a price like $130 and we'd be set. But then I never heard from her (even after continued calling) for about two weeks. So I then emailed the guy who emailed me the pics (her brother) asking if it had all been sold and that she wasn't returning my calls. He said that she said my offer was too low (uh hello, why not call me and tell me that yourself!).

So long story short I had to do my bargaining through emails with him, and he obviously doesn't check his email often. So now I can go get it tomorrow for $125. FINALLY this mess is finished! Let's hope the BP is in good shape.

I finally got it. The cage was dirty and the poor snake has "been shedding for the last two days"

You know how that looks for a BP with humidity levels too low. He seems to be in good health, but I haven't given an in depth inspection. Just got him home and have him soaking in a tote to help with that shed.

I'll get pics up once he's settled in and shed.

The cage is great though and will be perfect for my Carpet Python.
