    BP temp too low?

I'm not new to snakes or this site. I've been using my sisters account to browse but decided to sign up for my own. I have a question and I hope you can help me.

I have a pvc cage and my ball python lives in there. My heat mat decided to die and I want to switch over to an rhp so I don't want to buy another. Right now I've got an old backup zoomed one but it's not the greatest. My Herpstat is measuring 83-85 on the bottom of the cage over the heat mat and my Acurite says ambient is 80-82.

Will my bp (2 year old male) be okay at this temp until I can get the rhp? I really can't afford to go out and get a good heat mat right now and I think the money is better spent on the heat panel.

Also, can I leave it without substrate (paper towel) for now? I think he'll get more heat if there's nothing in between.

    Thoughts?

It's just a bit low, but he will be fine for the few days it takes to get the RHP, I would think! Towel paper substrate is fine.

    Re: BP temp too low?

Cool side is perfect, hot side is a little low but will be fine until you get the rhp. Do you have your herpstat probe inside the cage? If so I would move it to between uth and bottom of cage and bump up the thermostat. If it is inside the cage urine, poop, or your snake moving the probe can make the Herpstat not heat right and burn your snake. Paper towels are fine, you should be measuring temp when using a uth under the substrate and make sure it is no hotter than 94. Did you already order the rhp? Do you know what size to get?
