Only using cool hide
The Ivory I bought recently has only been using his cool hide. I have taken him out a couple times and put him back with head at entrance of hot hide and he crawls and he will stay in for one night and then goes into cool hide and stays there until I take him out and put him back in hot hide again and repeats this each time. He is in a T10 with a 88w pro products rhp regulated with Herpstat 6 set to 91 on ground with 87-88 in hide and 82 cool side with 80 inside cool hide. He has 2 reptile basics large hides and the only difference is the hides are turned different ways. My 2 other bps use both but tend to spend more time in hot hide and if it were up to him he would not move from cool hide I don't think.

Unless he's secluding to the cooler side even after feed I wouldn't worry too much, as long as your ambient temperatures are reasonable then he'll be fine. My snakes often lay on the cooler side of the enclosure and only slither on to the warmer after feed for digestion.

He even stays there after feeding. He has not once went to the hot hide on his own.
BTW did you see my message in your thermostat question earlier? If not check it and read my reply bc it is important when choosing how many thermostats or zones you need. Just want to make sure you have all the necessary info before buying.

Re: Only using cool hide
The 3 I have in my rack only have hides near the warm. I can see them come out and wander on occasion to thermoregulate but it took my killerblast what seemed like quite awhile to find out the big scary black box was a safe place and he loves it now.

I wish that was the case for me but he uses one of the "big scary black boxes" lol but doesn't use the identical one. I wish he used the hot hide instead of the cool for the sake of digestion. Maybe ill try turning it so it's facing the same way as the cool, Idk why that would matter but who knows.

Re: Only using cool hide
I would keep track of how many days after he eats that he defecates and check for constipation. If this is a common theme then he may in-fact be totally avoiding the warm side, otherwise he may just be sneaking to the warm side, possibly at night. And yes, I did see your reply, thanks for the advice!

He is definitely going to the bathroom. He has been with me for about 2 weeks and has ate twice and went to the bathroom 3 days after each meal. His meals have been while he was in cool hide and always seems hungry even after a meal, could he be thinking that he will he fed in the cool hide so stays in there? I don't think he has been going in the hot hide at night. I handled him a few hours ago and put head outside of hot hide and he crawled in, now he is out of hide laying stretched out between hot side and cool side.

If he is eating and pooping right and isn't ice cold when you handle him then I think he's fine and healthy

I would say he is healthy but every time I hold him he is quite chilly. If he doesn't start regulating his temp properly I may put a rhp that runs the length of his cage and run at one temp.

This may sound strange, but are both hides identical, just turned different ways?
