    Big Cheese order, little disappointed.

I ordered 3 packs of small, 1 pack fuzzies, and 1 pack weaned. I've just finished weighing and vacuum sealing my weaned for my 336g killer bee and I wish the weights would of been more spread out and all in the range the weight range advertised so I could of fed smaller to larger. 17 of 20 of them are 44g+ and 6 of those 17 are 50g+ including one that is 57g. I only received 3 that are 40 and under. Most of them are 47g+...not what I was expecting. I'm going to wait to weigh and vacuum seal small and fuzzies tomorrow. The smalls won't matter bc the snakes eating them are big enough to take anything in the weight range and little bigger. The fuzzies I'm worried about also bc it looks like there is a handful or so of pinkies in there but I'll see when I weigh tomorrow.

My experience with frozen feeders from 3 different popular and affordable vendors, including BC, is that while there are weight ranges for a given size, an individual order will usually consist of rodents of about the same size. Sometimes they're at the high end, sometimes the low end and sometimes in the middle. BC is at the top of my list for feeders.

I like the quality but the sizing is off for my needs for the weanlings for this order anyways, maybe I can request a size range next time but idk if they will do that. Hopefully after I feed off the 3 that are 40 and the couple that are 44, 45, 46 she will have grown and take the rest.

well, you vacuum packed them. if they're properly sealed you can keep them a long time. she'll be able to take the largest long before they go bad.

idk about requesting specific sizes, I've never tried. But it can't hurt to ask. I would imagine they would accommodate you if they could.

Re: Big Cheese order, little disappointed.

Yeah they will last a long time but I will need to order more for her before any of my others run out lol. I bought about 4 months worth for each snake so if she doesn't grow by time I feed off all the appropriate sized ones I'll need to order more in about a month and a half or 2 months while the rest won't need any. She had grown for 213g to 336 in a month and a half so if she keeps growing at the same rate it should work out. It's hard when there in between sizes, I need either the high end of pups or low end of weanlings but weanlings seemed like the best choice. 15% of 336 is 50.4 so I'm sure what I have is ok but I was hoping for some closer to the 10% range.

The 45-50g weaners should be ok. I use the 10-15% of body weight feeding guideline also but I tend to feed on the heavier side for my younger snakes. Once they reach two years old, or 1000g, then I start to taper off their feedings a bit.

The sizes you have are just fine. Feed them off smallest to largest. In the wild if a 65 gram rat walked in front of a 336 gram snake it wouldn't hesitate to kill it and eat it. It might wait a while longer before taking it's next meal. The 15% figure is just a gauge/guideline to use but not an absolute.

In the wild they don't bury a scale in the ground and watch for the right sized prey to cross over before striking.
