ok a feeding question, but not about...

a problem feeder. My boy is about 180g and has taken his third small rat(16-20g) since I switched him from mice. The rodents are f/t. He snatches and swallows within a few minutes. Question is, does that mean he's still hungry? I feed him every 5 days, but he attacks those rats and swallows a lot quicker than the mice I was feeding him. Don't won't to overfeed but want to make sure he's getting enough every meal. I handle him and let him stretch his legs after 72hrs of his feeding for about 45mins and about another 60mins after 96hrs, then feed him the following night.

I also have some rat fuzzies that are about 10-15g. Maybe I could try one of those after his small pups? I do have some larger pups, but wanted to get rid of the smaller pups first that I thought was more within the 10-13% range of his weight.

Depending on how many of the 10-15g size you have left, you could use those up quicker by decreasing time between feedings. Say every 3 days or so until they're gone?

Eric, I've got ten of the fuzzies(10-15g). The rat I fed him a second ago was 16g think I'll offer a fuzzy that's 10g. Then from now on go ahead and offer the fuzzies like you mentioned.

I'd actually start with the bigger end of the 10-15s then. That way once he's a little bigger, you can double up with the smaller end of the 10-15s with either the smaller end of the 16-20s or 2x of the smaller end of the 10-15s to use them up as you space out feedings again.

EDIT: Basically, consider them as one size and do the quick math for whatever works to get in the range you need as you use up the smaller size feeders. They tend to grow out of feeders quickly when they're small.

Gotcha! Thanks for the info. I bought the rats about the same size as the mice he was eating since I was trying to switch him over, but he's taken to rats like it some kind of treat. The rodent breeder did tell me there where some pups in there. I've since separated and weighed the rats and separated them with 15g being the breaking point. Since 15g mice was the biggest he's eaten. Thanks again.
