    Reptile Shows

    Question for you all....

So when we buy online from home, we have the luxury of searching reviews online for certain breeders and we come to know their reputation. My question is at shows, there are many "local" breeders and some that may not be as well know but don't have a website. Has anyone had issues buying form the shows of what was sold to what you thought you were getting?

I will be going to the upcoming Hamburg show, and I ask as am looking for a few BPs and just curious if there are no real markings for things such as Het Clowns, Albino etc, do we just really take a chance and trust they are Het?

    Thanks.

With Hets, you're pretty much always taking a chance.

Local breeders have just as much reputation locally as big breeders do nationally. And they have just as much reason to protect it.

Learn the right questions to ask and the right things to look for when making a show purchase. You'll do fine

With the cost of hets these days the draw of selling non-hets as hets is slim. In fact in the past I've sold poss-hets as normals, to me there's no reason to charge 25.00 for a poss-het vs 15.00 for a normal. I'd say buy from some one that looks to have their stuff together and you'll prolly be good.

I'll be going to Hamburg too!

I've never had a problem there, personally. Most of the vendors off the top of my head are either well known or focus on specific projects, so generally if there are a few hets on the table, you'll see evidence of a visual example (though with clowns they sometimes sell out early on). Hamburg has a long waiting list, so most people have generally been vending there for a while now and have established reputations.

You just need to buy from a reputable breeder, check the vendors list and than search their name on the BOI , many even without a presence online have feedback.

It's also the word of mouth ask people you know about certain vendors.

Finally no one is gonna jeopardize their reputation online or at show for a $25 to $100 animal, it even less likely at show since the majority of vendors do those show on a regular basis.

I can give you the name of at least once vendor I can vouch for selling at that show Limey @ Royal Reptilia

I'm sorry to interrupt, can't help with the initial question ― I have one of my own tho, you said a show in Hamburg? Is that the big Hamburg in Germany or is there a second Hamburg somewhere out there in the big ole world? :')

Solid advice right here. I looked at the guy I wanted to buy from... he didn't have a website, but there were some reviews on forums about him and things he has sold in the past. Everything looked good, so I went for it, and was extremely happy. I'm not sure if he'll be at that show or not, but it's Rick Krumrine. He keeps a lot of different snakes. Good guy and was great at following up with me afterwards.

I will say, that unless I'd buy from him again, I likely won't buy at an expo. Honestly, there are plenty of good breeders here on this forum who likely have (or know where to find) what you want. Their prices are good, and I have yet to see any sellers here that wouldn't back up what they are selling. I know expos and shows in other places have a lot of top-notch vendors, but the ones here near Pittsburgh, Pa made me feel questionable...
