    Question Ideas For a background?

Anyone have any ideas? I've seen one made of molding clay, but I don't remember exactly they did it.

    Thanks!

are u talking about background scenery to put behind glass or some texture background to put inside a tank?

i just have stick-on jungle backgrounds for my 2 tanks. like these:

but some peeps have 3-D textured backgrounds also. u could buy them or make them. i've seen canned insulation foam used before. use that as a base and carve/shave it or stick it with rocks, bark, bones, plants, etc. etc. u know spray foam like this:

i hope to pickup some Uroplatus gecko's during our fall Reptile show and i'll be putting them in a bioactive vivarium. i'll probably be using spray foam to create a background they can climb on.

Edit: also don't forget to visit the DIY forum here for ideas, how-to's and stuff: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/forum...?125-DIY-Forum

Love your backgrounds - p.s. would that foam stuff work to make a hide? Is it safe?

i was gonna use a post-apocalyptic skyline of my city as a background, but FedEx Kinko's refused to print it for me. something about copyright. i coulda lied and said something like yeah, "i totally drew that on the computer myself" but whatever lol. this:

as long as the spray foam is non-toxic, non-flammable sure they can be used to make hides. i think it might be hard to maintain shape tho - unless u have a mold or just gonna make a chunk to carve. also i would think about sealing it up as it it porous.

That would be so dope for a background! Lol I have a hard time lying too even if it's harmless...

I'm not a super crafty person so maybe not the best idea for me hahah I just wish I could design a hide for my girl...thinking about going to a pottery studio.

if i pump myself up, i can totally get them to believe me and have it printed. i might have to find a different FedEx Kinko's tho just in case.

Also this is a good link for making hides. You can make replicas of hides you have or find something you like the shape of and mold the clay around it then shape it, mound it, cut it or whatever you want. Just make sure what your using as a mold won't melt in the oven lol

If you Google hides/basking spots made of foam, you will get some great ideas. I'm starting to make one for a bearded dragon using sheeted 1/2" foam board. Cut/shape it however you want, stack sheets together with glue/toothpicks/dowel rods, then once you have the shape you want, cover it with grout and then a safe sealant. This has been done for backgrounds and all sorts of ledges/hides/ramps, etc...

I'm actually thinking to do this, I saw one DIY in the forums and thought it would be good for someone like me(who would easily get hurt using sharp or power tools...etc..) Also, we have some foam boards(I'm pretty sure we do any ways) in the garage lol. It will be clean before I do anything with it.
