Baby ate!!!!
Well we offered Baby our 2.5 month old, 18" BP her first feeding today after a week of leaving her/him basically alone other than to change water.
Everything went perfectly....wiggled the mouse at her a bit and WHAM! Man can a BP move fast when it wants to!! Constricted it, pushed it around a bit and then swallowed it down head first.
Baby's currently lazing out looking rather pleased in a snakey sorta manner.
Mike and I now understand how excited you all are when you get a successful feeding. We ran outta the room Baby's in just so we could high five and not scare the poor baby snake with our jumping around LOL.

...hopefully you won't have to experience the level of jubilation when you have a bp eat that has been off feed for 4 months - now THAT is a good feeling. Hang around with ball pythons long enough and you'll eventually find out what that is like!

I second that emotion - and I still rejoice every time he eats now - don't want to go through that again... but probably will ...

Congrats!! We all definitely know what you mean about the high fives. I literally did a happy dance when mine ate for the first time for me almost 2 months after getting him. Hopefully it'll be smooth sailing for the rest of your time together!

Re: Baby ate!!!!
Actually we weren't really expecting Baby to eat the first time we tried to feed her and for the first few minutes she did sort of ignore the mouse (or is this typical of BP's) then faster than I could see she hit it and yes, I jumped a mile high and dropped the mouse quick so she could finish constricting it (dead tho it was).
Accck 4 months! I know this happens but I can pretty much guarantee I'll be fretting if that ever happens.

Re: Baby ate!!!!
Isn't it amazing how quick they are?!?! I still jump occasionally, even though I know it's coming. Especially considering how mellow they are the majority of the time. It's to keep us on our toes or the ceiling!

Re: Baby ate!!!!
Haha! This is exactly why I feed my guy when he's in his hide. It scares the crap outta me when he strikes, at least when he's in a hide I can't see it coming and am less likely to mess up the strike by jumping a mile. I used to have to have my hubby do the feeding because I jumped so high, until I figured out the hide trick.
