    Basking shelf with rhp

So I'm assembling my T10 and I was going to put the basking shelf in but I'm going to be using a 24x12 rhp so the shelf will get way hotter since it's up closer to the rhp. Probably wouldn't be a good idea to use it right? I wouldn't of personally got it but I bought it new in box with someone and it came with it.

Do RHPs not hook up to a thermostat? I've no experience with them.

Yes they do but my ground temp where is hide is going to be will be set to 90 on Herpstat but the basking shelf is 8 inches off ground in the T10 so the shelf will be hotter bc it's closer to the rhp

Yes they do need to be hooked up to a thermostat and a shelf is fine, it is radiant heat.

Set the temp on the shelf, then? Makes sense to do that to me if that's where your hot spot is.

My hot spot will be where his hot hide is. His hide won't fit on basking shelf and the temp on the ground won't be hot enough if I set the shelf temp. He's a big boy.

Yes but it heats objects and the ground is further away set at 90 and the shelf is closer so it will heat the shelf hotter bc its trying to get the hot spot that is further away to the correct temp.

The only options I see for you here are either not worrying about the hide below being a hot spot and set the shelf temp to 90, or don't bother with the shelf.

Depends on how much hotter the shelf will be. If it will only be 2-3 degrees hotter then it would be ok. I was just wondering if anyone had experience with rhps with basking shelves and could tell me if it would work or not to bother with it.

Why not test it out for yourself? (:
