Steps after receiving new BP?

My first little ball python Brutus will be arriving in 3 days, and I think I've got everything ready for him. However, I was wondering if there were any steps to take after he arrives considering he is being shipped through FedEx.

Should I weigh him?

How long before I should try to feed him?

When can I start to handle him?

Is there anything else I should do?

Just asking for some quick advice.

It's not necessary to weigh him right off the bat .

I'd give him atleast a few days to settle in before offering him a meal .

Everyone has there own timeframe of handling . I like to wait until they are eating consistently before I really handle them .

Make sure the temps are right and humidity . A nice hide and water and whatever substrate you choose .

if you want to sure. It's a way to track his health

How long before I should try to feed him?


People have different opinions but if you know the schedule he was on I'd offer with that if he doesn't take try 5 days later when he's settled in more.

When can I start to handle him?

I'd wait at least until 48 hours after his first meal.

Is there anything else I should do?

Double and triple check all temps and humidity and try and survive the anticipation of his arrival. Good luck and congrats!

What everyone else said. I would turn thermostat and heating devices and anything else on now and keep it on that way you have time to adjust before your snake arrives.
