    Feeding two mice

Piston is well beyond the point of one mouse being enough. I want to feed two mice per feeding (once a week), however I don't know if there is any particular method of doing it.

After he swallows the first mouse, how long should I wait to introduce the second?

Is there anything else I should know?

Adam I hope your out there. You are like my BP god.

    Re: Feeding two mice

when i had my male BP i would wait till he starts "hunting", or exploring before i offered the second mouse. its ideal though, that you get him on 1 appropriate sized rat

I've got my bp on 2 mice. I give her the first one and then give her 10 minutes and then when she pokes her head out of her hide I know she's ready for the second.

Thanks guys. I do try to get him one appropriate size meal, with rats, but it's not always easy to find. This is just for those times where I can't find an appropriate size one.

    Re: Feeding two mice

Well, I tried two mice, and he only took one. After he took it, he got really active, with a happy look on his face, even though the mouse wasen't clearly big enough for him. He looked and sniffed the other mouse, but never went for it. I guess he is a one meal at a time kind of snake. As soon as he saw me, he immediately climbed out of his feeding box towards me, with a look on his face like, "hi dad." lol, I can't really be upset with him, especially when he's licking my face right after eating the one mouse, with his rodent breath. I'll give him the other one tommorrow. I know that I should leave him be, to digest, but since the mouse was too small, I figure it be ok to feed him the second one the next day.

    Unless you guys object.

    Re: Feeding two mice

If your bp does not take the second mouse just wait until next week then offer two mice again. Thats why I like feeding multiple mice. If the bp is not feeling hungry, most likely it will take one mouse...If it wants to, it will take multiples. That way, It is always eating and can regulate its own food intake. If you were feeding single rats and your bp did not feel hungry, he would not eat at all. Sometimes it take a few attempts to get them to take two mice....but once they do you are usually good. How long did you give him to take the second mouse? You will find out that sometimes they will take the second immediately after...sometimes they 'hunt for a bit'. My female bp would not take two mice from the start when I got her in March. But after a few tries she was good to go. Last night she pounded 4 adult mice back to back (and was still looking for more).

    Re: Feeding two mice

You might try increasing his feedings a bit as well. Change it to once every 5 days or someting instead of once a week. I did that with my ball since he begain acting very very hungry by the 6th day after he'd be feed. He went into shed, and I didn't bother him for his weds feeding, and now I've got him on 2 mice at a time. I've dropped one f/t mouse in there after he's coiled around the first and he's eventaully eaten it, but it think it's best for him to eat one, wait a little bit and offer him the second.

I want to put him on rats as soon as I can get some. It'll be easier on me.

Thumbs up Re: Feeding two mice

I feed my bp 2 mice a week but she wont take them on the same day. I wait 3 to 4 days and then feed again. she is normaly looking after 3 days now. it has worked out well for me. I have had her a little over 3 months and she has doubled her weight she had only eaten 3x in a year for the previous owner. good luck!

    Re: Feeding two mice

Ive been having trouble with Rebel. (well.....what do you expect with a name like that i guess)

When i first got her (not to long ago) she was only eating one mouse. I didnt think that was enough for a 3 foot snake with fairly good girth so i started feeding her rats......and she ate them.

Then she didnt want anything to do with food during the winter and so this spring when she started to "act hungry" i offerd her the usual sized rat and she didnt want them.

I offerd her a rat about 4 times before i gave in and dropped a mouse in there and she ate it.

But the problem is, she will only eat ONE at a time.Ive tried all of the methods above and ive even tried scenting a rat with a couple mice but nothing works, she will only eat one mouse at a time, so now i think im going to have to offer her one mouse every 5 days.

I wish Rebel was more like Roxy sometimes Grrrrrrr

    Re: Feeding two mice

brandon, I would offer one mouse every 4-5 days then after three or four feedings wait 7 days between feedings and offer two. That might get her going, maybe she just needs to get used to eating again
