    Exclamation Ball python not eating

now I know that you have probably heard this many times but my ball python is just not eating. For the past couple of months he has been spending his time on the cold side of the cage and just recently (past three weeks) he has been refusing to eat. Is there any solution to this he feeds on live ( I know he should feed on frozen but he won't switch) and he lives in a freedom breeder cage. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks.

p.s I have been on the site for a while now and I just want to say that it is amazing! The support is so incredible so thank you for that.

Well, could you please post husbandry details (humidity, temps, etc). From my understanding, males will fast at odd times, and he should be fine for a few months. Just keep an eye on his weight and maybe offer food every other week.

    Re: Ball python not eating

There could be a whole number of different factors causing him not to eat. Ball Pythons are finicky creatures, some prefer the environments to be just right or else they won't eat while others will eat regardless.

Best way to get an idea of why he isn't eating is to provide some details on his husbandry information.
    • His age/weight and the enclosure size you currently have him in? Rack system or stand alone cage? If he isn't in a rack, how many hides, if any, are in the enclosure with him?
    • What type of heat source are you using & how are you regulating it? Hot spot temp? Warm/cool side temps? Humidity levels?

I've recently been referencing a really good article written by Justin Kobylka regarding picky eaters. I've actually applied the methods detailed in the articles for my picky eater and they worked quite well!

You may find some useful information there and in the meantime if you could fill us in with all the info I mentioned above, it may help us get an idea what you are dealing with.
