How often is it open? Can't say for sure bc my snakes have never had it but could be a sign of RI. You should also give us your setup. What your using as a cage, what your using for heat, what's your humidity level, what your using to take temps, how your taking your temps, what your using to regulate your heat devices.

Also since this is your first post welcome! Here is the care sheet, I recommend reading it and making adjustments if any are needed.

Ball Python Mouth Open,Should This Be a Cause of concern?

Hello, As I was feeding My Ball (SPIDER YELLOWBELLY 100% HET GHOST) I usually feed Two Live Adult Mice (supervised feedings) since he goes for them right away as opposed to rejecting f/t and rejecting rats. Right after he downed His first mouse I noticed that the on left side of his mouth his lower yaw looked a bit funny like he has an overbite I quickly Grabbed My camera and tried to snap a few pictures to see if it should be something thats is normal to experience after a meal or if this is a special case.My main concerns are mouth rot or Impaction from the substrate. I hope its something minor like difficulty re-aligning his jaw and then just snapped it back in place or something . after a while the problem seemed to go away from my pov so i fed him the second mouse it seamed a few times as if the issue was back. images were taking after the first the mouse and before the second mouse. Since he had just eaten I do not want to lift him up or move him around to much to avoid regurgitation. so for the next day or two i guess my only choice is to play the waiting game to physically examine him for impaction etc. I hope that the pictures help you guys help me with the situation.and please let me know if you have any questions or comments that might help. Thanks

You should also give us your setup.
What your using as a cage :40 gal breeder, screen top.

what your using for heat: Heat mat on warm side, My room I a little chilly so I keep a low wattage light on the cool side to maintain warmth.

    what's your humidity level
    65%

what your using to take temps / how your taking your temps?
what your using to regulate your heat devices?
zoo med digital thermometer on the warm side. the probe is on top of substrate where ball python usually sits. right under that probe I have the probe for the rheostat. wich touches the bottom of the tank where the heat mat meets the glass.
For the cool side I have a digital thermometer / hygrometer with probe. the probe is placed on top of substrate directly under the lamp to ensure accurate Measurements. My humidity readings come from this same probe.

Also since this is your first post welcome!
    Thank You

what would be the best approach to removing it ?
He is non violent in any way shape or form poor little guy has never even tried to strike at me in over a year of ownership so im not too concerned about this but i know its also something to look out for.

Well, he will either eat it or somehow remove it from his mouth. In the future, try to catch it while he is eating so that you could slowly reach in and take it out. I've had to do this with mine to prevent her from eating substrate.

Yeah, that looks like a wood chip. See if he'll let you get it out of there. Otherwise, he should figure it out himself. Not a big deal.

    1. grab back of head gently .
    2. Open mouth ( I like to use q-tips )
    3. Reach in with tweezers/ tongs etc
    4 . Remove item.

If it is substrate that would work otherwise I'm sure in some time he will take care of it .

With it the side of his mouth like that, I probably wouldn't even try to open his mouth. Just try to poke in the side there with some tongs/tweezers. If he fights a bunch or you can't get it after 2-3 tries, I'd just let him deal with it.
