    Herpstat vs VE Probe accuracy

Today I decided to compare the probe accuracy of my Herpstat 6, Herpstat Pro, 2 VE-200, 1 VE-200D, and VE-300. All VE tested were version 1.0. The Herpstat 6 is hooked up to my rhp and I put all the probes to the other thermostats right next to the herp 6 probe. Please note the other thermostats are not hooked up to a heating device. This is just to show you all the accuracy of the probes which is very important just like its important that the accuracy of your thermometer is correct. Also the VE thermostats measure to the whole degree while Herpstat measures every tenth. My Herpstat 6 is set to 82.5 for my rhp. I let the rest of the probes sit for an hour checking every 15 mins. The VE's reached the 82 mark in 5 mins and the Herpstat pro took about 20 mins but only ever got to 80.3, it does have the older style probes which may of contributed to this. When my Herpstat 6 would go from 82.5 to 82.6 all the VE's would go to 83 and when the herp went back down to 82.5 they would go back down to 82. The herp pro would drop and raise two tenths. I decided mist the cage to see how the drop in temp would compare. The same results happened above, when the Herpstat 6 dropped to 81.5 it read 81 and when it reached 80.5 ve read 80, drop to 79.5 ve 79 . The Herpstat pro took longer to drop in temp. The raise in temp same exact results. Herpstat 6 79.6 VE 80, raise to 80.6 VE 81, raise to 81.6 VE 82, raise to 82.6 VE 83. Like I said before every time the Herp 6 temp would raise to .6 it the VE would raise a degree and every time it dropped to .5 the VE would drop a a degree. The Herpstat pro I was not satisfied with the results, the probes are the old style and I'll be buying the new style to test again. I would like to add that my acurite thermometers were right with the VE when the Herpstat 6 would change.

My main reason for this was I see people asking which thermostat is more accurate. Bottom line is that both the newer style Herpstats and VE are both very good accurate thermostats. I can not say much with the older herpstats bc of my results. If you can do without some features and want to save a little money buy the VE or if you want the features then the Herpstat. Neither one of these products will disappoint you. Thanks for reading my rambling!

I agree, both are fairly close after my tests as well.

How did your tests compare to mine? Did you do yours similar to mine?

I'm glad you shared similar results. Its helps having someone perform the same test and get the same results. Make sure to post or at least let me know what the new one does. Thank you!
