UTH doesn't work with dimmer thermostat?
Hello,
I realized just now that my exo terra rainforest UTH doesn't work with my Habistat dimmer thermostat! I tried, both work on their own. The problem is, that tomorrow I wil get a new hatchling ball python, and now I don't know how I will set up properly. I have one on-off thermostat, but there is an other UTH on it. It's the same type, but it's 12 W and the new one is just 4 W. I suppose they are the same W / area, do you think I can put both to the same thermostat? ( Sorry, I can not try it out now, they are not in the same place now, but if would be working, I will do it for the time it should be.)Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!

What makes you think it is not working?
How are you checking it?
Where are you putting the probe?

Thank you!
I found out, what is the problem! The Habistat dimming thermostat can regulate a device which is at least 50 W! Put them together, the thermostat don't give any electricity to the UTH. My UTH is (6"x6") only 4 W but in my well insulated tub it raises temps to 104 F! So I must find out a different solution...

The heating device has to be at least 50w?! That's weird bc most uth are under 50w. The only reason I can think is they figure someone would buy a dimming for a heat lamp and people generally buy a bulb over 50w. Did you just get the thermostat? Could you maybe exchange for a different model? You could use a regular lamp dimmer in the mean time or get a microclimate.

If you need a cheap thermostat, I've used hydrofarms for years without issue. Herpstat and VE are more expensive, but worth the money if you have it.

I agree with this.
The guy I get my cages from is a high end carpet python breeder. He uses Hydrofarms and sells them. I have one and it works just fine.
My first choices are Herpstat and Vivarium Electronics stats, which I have as well.
If you are going to regulate any type of ambient temp, I'd go with a first rate stat.
I used the Hydrofarm for a UTH. I have been told if they fail they fail in the "ON" position. Although burns are not at all desired, I'd prefer a failure on a UTH over something that regulates ambient temps. If the whole, cage gets too hot, the snake is done unless you have a huge water bowl and happen to be around when things go wrong.
That said I'm not sure I've heard about many Hydrofarms failing.
Even still,,,,, a Heprstat or VE entry level isn't very much $$$.

Re: UTH doesn't work with dimmer thermostat?
Habistat is actually a thermostat made in the UK so the OP needs a thermostat that runs on 220v. Herpstat, VE, and I believe hydrofarm are all 110v. Microclimate I've heard good things about and Istat as well. Istat makes a compact model that won't run you to much but there pulse plus is nice so I've heard. The istat is available in the US as well as the UK so I've looked into them quite a bit and they seem reliable.
