    Question Candling eggs too much?

Is it possible to candle ball python eggs too much. I mean does candling them possibly stress embryos? Is there a certain point when candling eggs should stop, or is it okay to candle them all the way up until hatch day?

I've heard it both ways. I candled my first clutch almost every day once I hit 40 days out of sheer curiosity! They all hatched out just fine.

Candling is something done early on in determining egg viability. I have never heard of nor do i think its safe to repeatedly candle eggs. The more its done the better chance there is to do damage to the underdeveloped structures in the eye. I mean, what would be the purpose to do that? If nothing else it must frighten the developing snake. IMO, it's unnecessary.
Stay in peace and not pieces.

The reason I ask is that I have a egg that is growing mold but still alive. Daily I wipe mold off of the egg. It collapsed some that day I put it in my incubator then started to mold. I had one other egg do the same thing and it died. Both eggs were roll outs, and the other eggs in the clutch are fine. So I candle it every week to make sure it hasn't died. I've wanted to treat the mold but I read all the forums and see donts and do's and I have just been wiping it off instead. I just don't want to stress embryo inside egg, but I also don't want to be incubating a rotting egg with good eggs so I candle it.

Candling is not the issue, messi bg with eggs, opening the box, letting humidity out is. (You do not want to be the person asking for help because your eggs are getting dry)

Candle your eggs, put them in the incubator and forget about them until one week before they hatch, at which time you can air them out every other days.

There is not reason to candle or check on eggs all the time.

So do you mean 1 week before day 55 or one week before day 60?

Depends at what temp you incubate, I incubate at 88.5, my eggs eggs hatch at 60 days, I start airing out at day 53, but sometimes I don't air out at all. I was out of the country for 2 weeks when the first clutch of the season hatch so they were not aired out.

Ok I'll start airing them at 55 days. My humidity is at 99% and all of my eggs from both clutches look great but the one moldy egg that is still alive.
