Should I switch to bigger hides?
Kratos is 3 feet long and last time I weighed him 3 weeks ago he was 539g. He currently has reptile basics hides and he barely fits the entry hole, the only reason he does is bc he burrowed out some of the substrate at the entrance. He fits in the hide if he is balled up tight but sometimes he likes to be not as tight and will lift the hide with his head and ball again and let the hide sit on top of him. I already have the large RBI hides so should I just switch them out? He's been in the large before when I put him in tub when I clean his cage. It seems kinda big for him but would that be better then what he does with the mediums?

You could put them both in and see what he does. If space is tight, put the mediums on top of the large ones, or switch just one and see what he does.

The large one is fine. Do you think all hides snakes encounter in nature are uniformly and appropriately sized?

Lol no not at all. The advice given is a snug fitting hide. I don't think the large are snug fitting that's why I asked.

A snug fitting hide is another dogmatic 'rule' on this forum that is widely accepted by the herd. While it is true that you dont want a ridiculously big hide for a small snake, because that tends to defeat the purpose of a hide. But if its a little big the snake will grow into it. A tub in an enclosed rack system is essentially one big hide.

That's about the size I got my bigger guy a large RBI hide. He likes it. I think because they're dark, the snake feels more secure. Basically---give it a try. See if he likes it.
