    Bookshelf cage conversion - heating

Hi all.... New to this site but I've been reading and lurking for a few weeks.

im planning on building out a recessed bookshelf in my living room into a cage for my recently adopted 3yr normal male. the shelves are made out of wood, and about 48x14x14 per shelf ... I'm going to turn one into a terrarium and then maybe sneak another shelf into one for another snake... Lol... Hopefully before my wife realizes that I've built a home for a second BP...

My plan is to use a 40 watt RHP mounted to the ceiling/top on a herpstat. I plan on enclosing the cage with sliding glass or plexiglass secured by a jewelers lock. I plan on using aspen or maybe unprinted newsprint paper. Lighting will be by led strips mounted overhead as well. The shelving will be properly waterproofed and sealed.

My question is: will a RHP from above make the hot side properly warm? I shouldn't have to route out an area for a ceramic heat tile and heat tape, right?

As long as you use a thermostat to regulate your heat source and RHP will be better than a CHE.
A CHE will need to be regulated AND caged so your snake cannot touch it.
