Re: redish belly scales
i noticed some slight reddishness on my BP's belly before he went into shed, i was worried and took her to the Vet, and she said that BP's sometimes showed redness underneath before a shed. it went away after the shed. It was a slight vauge pinkish color on the belly. So long as it isn't a dark red color i wouldn't be too worried.
Look for other signs of shed, like the dryish/dull scale color, and the tell tale blue eyes....if that is the case do the usual increase of humidity.

his belly does become pinkish before a shed but this is a redish colur and there are only a few specks throughout his belly unlike a shed were his whole belly would usally be pinkish and it's mainly on the very tip of his tail.

If you're using belly heat, or even if you're not, I would check your temps to make sure he's not getting burned. When our royal sheds his belly takes on a pinkish hue, there are no red spots. Accurate temps are extremely important.
Good luck,

Re: redish belly scales
i am using belly heat but it's on a electical thermastat at about 80 degrees and dosent get hot enough to possibly burn him i've sat my hand on it for a prolonged period and you couldn't really tell it was even getting my hand warm, and i use over head lights which give him a 90 degree basking spot which between the both keep his tank ambient temp at 85.the thing is if you read any of my previous threads I live in Oregon were we have 9 moths of rain and my snake went into a hibernation period about 6 months ago before he went in to it he feasted on a large rat,but it's just about mid spring now and he hasent eaten yet but has been drinking water and dosent seem to have lost much wait,i pull him out and do cleaning regularly and do a good look over him for any sighs of disease or illness and hadn't found anything untill now!All of a sudden these redish marking appear as there are some speckles along the belly the most of the red is literly at the tip of the tail on the belly side only covering an area of maybe 1/2 inch.and for as long as i've own him he has never stopped eatting or have any problems eatting untill this year and has never had redish markings on his belly and tail other then the common pinkish tone they take on when going into a shed. So if any one has any ideas of what could be causing all this i'd be gratefull it has been driving me crazy for the past 6 months.

did you just say he's had it for 6 months & you haven't gone to a vet yet?

Re: redish belly scales
Scale rot is a possible especially with the rainy weather where you are.
The belly heat should be at the very least 90 degrees ( that would be on the bottom of the cage as bp's don't bask and heat from above does little for them)
Low temps and moisture will cause belly rot. Keep an eye on it if it gets worse I would take to a vet. Try to lower humidity and up temps.
What type of substrate are you using?
If other than newspaper switch to that and put something like Nirosporin on the reddish scales. But you really should take to the Vet.

Re: redish belly scales
Yeah, if it were a simple cause as an iminent shed, I don't think it would last for 6 months! I think you should get your snake in to a good herp vet.
