female ball python

I have a female ball python and we have a male ball python in the cage with her for 3 months and for the past week she been in the same spot and wont move and she wont eat for 2 months now. Can anyone give mean idea what could be wrong ? This is the first time she has done this.

These are not communal animals.

Please give us a little more information on the caging setup and we may be able to help you a little more.

I am not an expert by any means but all the information I have come across says do not house BPs together - they are a solitary animal. Get another cage and your girl should be happy again. Hopefully!

they are in a 55 gallon tank with aspen bedding and a heat lamp with 150 watt bulb they told us to buy at petco also a hide box and water dish

Ok thank you the male snake was a friends snake that he left here so we started taking care of him

Like stated you need to separate ASAP. Ball pythons should never be paired unless they are breeding. What are you using to control your temps? I'm sure Petco didn't tell you to buy a thermostat but I really hope you did especially with the size bulb your using. Is the bulb red? What are your temps? Are you using a digital thermometer with probe or temp gun to check your temps? What is your humidity? Do you have a digital hydrometer? You need 2 hides identical hides one for the hot side and one for the cold side. Reptile basics makes very good ones. You will need 4 hides once you move the other one to its own enclosure. You will also need another thermostat and if you don't have a thermostat already you will need something like the herpstat 2. Make sure you get a dimming proportional thermostat when using heat lamps. If you only have 1 hide how does the other one hide when the other is using it? Go read the care sheet sticky it's very helpful and you will have a happy snake.

Petco #&%!!*!!!!

I am sad to say that most of the time petco is going to be wrong. Check out the care sheets like others have said. Ball pythons are relatively easy and cheap to care for if you follow the "rules". It is possible to use a tank but it requires a lot more work than a tub. This board has 99% of the answers you need. Read and learn. There are people on here that have successfully kept hundreds of snakes. The formula petco gave you for caring for your animals will fail. Please correct as soon as you can so that you do not end up at the vet with your animals.

Yea we have a digital thermostat and we use a red light at night and a blue light during the day we seperated them so hopefully everything goes good and i will look at the care sheet the thermostat is reading 80 and the humidity is 55 and we spray the tank with water once a day

You're thinking of a thermometer, that reads the temperature. A thermostat is different---it controls how hot the heating source gets, and shots it off when it gets too hot. They're kind of hard to find at pet stores. There are a lot of reptile-specific thermostats but if you want an inexpensive one, you can get a hydrofarm seedling thermostat from Amazon. It's a very important thing to have, to prevent your snakes from getting burned.
