    Gravid black eyed anery

This female is my office/lab pet. A 5 year old black eyed anerythristic (RDR line). I keep her in a terrestrial exoterra with a heat mat and thats pretty much it. Chipped aspen substrate, water bowl, and a few rocks to help when shedding. This season I put a male Costa Rican T+ with her as I want to make some dhet snows. This will be a world first breeding if babies are born. Well, I travel a fair amount with work and while I saw lots of breeding, I missed an ovulation and post-ovulation shed. I removed a shed but can't remember if that was this month, last month, whatever. I took her out today for a little cage maintenance and too look her over, and as you can see, she is gravid. So, when will she drop? who knows. Will it be live babies? Looks like it, based on her proportions. Am I happy? Yes. I'll update when we have answers to the first questions.

Of not, I did not cycle her. I feed her 10 to 12 times a year. I simply put the male in, and decided to treat them like I did the first time I bred boas. (I have breed boas maybe 50 times in the last 20 years, but I apply a much different regime). Fun times.

    The breeding -

    The gravid loveliness

Bad iphone pics, but you get the idea.

    Congrats!

Those are good looking Boas. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the babies turn out.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

I have several in my office - Those two, a pair of Corallus ruschenbergerii (Costa Rican back-tailed tree boas), and a few ball pythons. The joy of running a lab which focuses, partly, on reptilian evolution.
