Humidity Sensor, Where to put it?

Currently I have my humidity sensor placed in the center of my tank and it is about 2 inches off of the substrate floor. Is this the best place for the sensor or is there somewhere else I should put it?

That's a good spot bc that's down where your bp is. You wouldn't want to hang it 10 inches off the floor bc your snake never spends anytime up there. I think you want to make sure its not on the hot side bc the heat won't give you an accurate reading do to water evaporating.

That's what I was thinking, just wanted to verify it since I'm going to have a humidifier hooked up to the tank.

Have you considered using a misting system instead of a humidifier? I use the mistking starter kit. The timer that comes with it allows you to set 10 different times and for whatever duration you want. I have mine set at 9 seconds every 2.5 hours and my humidity is at 62 after misting and 53 right before it starts misting at my next scheduled time. If you buy right from mistking you can upgrade your timer for a fee and one of the upgraded timers let you set what humidity level you want instead of having to set certain times. Also the starter set allows you to run up to 10 nozzles off of just the pump it comes with, which then you could run multiple cages off on pump. All you would have to do was buy more nozzles and maybe tubing. It comes with quite a bit of tubing though.

That misting kit sounds pretty cool. Can you use it for any size, and any type of tank?

Yes it will work with any tank size. If you use a glass tank with a screen lid they sell a piece that goes on the screen that holds the nozzle. I used PVC so I just drilled a 5/8 hole and put nozzle in. I have a 48x26x14 enclosure so I use 2 nozzles, one on left side one on right side, that way I can mist for a shorter amount of time. It works fine with just one nozzle but you may need to have it set to mist longer. I decided to install a second nozzle bc I noticed the floor was getting soaked right under the nozzle do to the fact I had to mist for 25 seconds. That's the only con. I put a small bowl under it until I bought the second nozzle. My humidity in my house is only 20% so that plays a big factor in how much I had to mist. Kratos use to be in a 24x22x14 PVC and one nozzle was perfect every 2 hours for 7 seconds. I think it was worth every penny. If I didn't have it my humidity would be at 20-30 for hours until I got home. I also like the fact the pump can run dry with no damage and you can buy any size bucket for your water reservoir. I use a 2 gallon bucket and I only have to fill it once a month.

From what I've looked at, the misting systems are significantly more costly than the humidifier and setup.

Yes the starter mistking is $130. Idk how much a humdifier, digital timer, pvc, and replacement filters will cost. I watched some videos on it and most took about 2-5 minutes for the humidity to get to where it needs to be. I'll have to look into it bc I'm sure I'll be adding some more herps to my collection and most likely they will have different humidity requirements and possibly different enclosures so my 9 second every 2.5 hours duration may not work for them so I'll either have to drop another $130 or try the humidifier thing.

I shouldn't have to worry too much about the humidity swinging too much. I plan to use my herpstat to control the humidifier, and only allow it to stay between 50-60% and 60-70 during sheds.
