    Herpstat question

Hey guys so I was going to go buy a glass tank and everything set up for a good price but I've decided to hold off.. I have since decided to save up my money and buy a ap t8 tank for future purchases so I won't be throwing money away to just upgrade later at least with the divider I can house two before stacking. The possibilities. But anyhow my question now.. Instead of the cheap 30 dollar thermostat to control the flex watt belly heat I was interested in getting the herpstat.. Not necessarily me being on a budget but I was deciding between the herpstat 1 and 2 and the 1 intro.. Which one will be better for the one side now and will it be able to regulate both sides of the tank? And if I stack the cages will I have to upgrade my thermostat? Any input will be helpful thanks ahead of time!

Herpstat 1 is the minimum you want to go with as that has all the safeties of the higher ones. As for running multiple heat tapes, some will say as long as the cages are identical, you can just piggy back off 1 cage with a power strip. I say bad idea personally because if the main heat source you are using as the guide, malfunctions, all your heat sources will be off. I have a Herpstat 1 and Herpstat 2. I use the 1 on my big girl and the 2 on BP and sunglow. I say buy a Herpstat 2. Then add to it as needed. They don't go out of style and Dion at Spyder Robotics says the firmware is updatable. Just have to send it in and pay the shipping and fees. My Herpstat one is old and doesn't have all the new stuff my Herpstat 2 has like basking light features but it still works fine and does what I need it to do for my RHP.

I have a herpstat 1 on my rack, and like previously stated, it has all the safety features that the intro doesn't. I like it just fine but the two has more features and from what I hear you can plug a lot more into it, and control a lot more. Sauzo, can it control multiple things all at once?

But I love my herpstat. Its awesome.

Yes the Herpstat 2 can control 2 heat sources separately. There is 2 plugs in back for each power and probe. Basically its like 2 Herpstat 1s in 1 case.

I use a herpstat 1, to control my rack. I use a herpstat ND on a t10. If you plan on adding more to your collection soon, then I would absolutely splurge for a bigger herpstat now. You can't ever have too many herpstat ports. But it's not fun to scramble to fit yet another temp regulator into the budget. Learn from my mistakes!!

the ND has three power ports, but only one probe. So great for a single enclosure that needs multiple gadgets. I would NOT try to run three identical setups off of it though.

The intro plus has all the safety features for less money. I have 2 and love them.

    Re: Herpstat question

For right now I'm just looking at running the herpstat off the one t8 but if I add another I might as well get a better herpstat but I'm not looking at doing that until years down the road.. But I'm sure that's what everybody says lol

Also if you have room temp problems like me you may need a heat source for the cool side also. I have heat mats on both the hot and cold side so I need a thermostat plug for each. Unless I wanted to run them both at the same temp. For my 2 bp I needed 4 thermostat plugs total and then 2 more for my 2 Leo's. I had to order the herpstat 6 (which will be here Thursday). But you could always use a rhp that goes the length of the cage or if your using a divider you would have get 2 of the same rhp the size from the end to the divider and then you could maintain the whole cage at one temp. But if your room stays warm enough to keep the cool side the correct temp then you would only need a herpstat 1 as long as tour heat sources are identical. But its much safer to have separate probes and plugs for each heat source so if it malfunctions you know before it's to late.

If you aren't going to do it until way down the road and you need to save a few pennies now, just get a Herpstat 1. You can always pick up another Herpstat down the road and personally I would rather have a few Herpstat 1 and 2 then say 2 Herpstat 4. Simply because if say one of the Herpstats goes funky, you can sub in something like a Hydrofarm on that one cage but if you are running say a Herpstat 4 and it goes toast on even 1 port, you got 4 animals without heat that will need 4 Hydrofarms to run them until you send it and get back your Herpstat 4. Also Herpstats don't get outdated as I mentioned Dion from Spyder Robotics told em you can send in the older models and have the firmware updated for a small fee.

For me, I just got a single Herpstat 1 for my old boa. Then when I picked up Dottie, I just figured i'd get a Herpstat 2 which I then used the other port for Vicky. Now later down the road, I plan on getting either a Sorong or Manokwari GTP or maybe a Jungle carpet and when I do, i'll just order another Herpstat 2 or maybe a Herpstat 4 and use the Herpstat 1 as a back up along with my Hydrofarms.
