BPnet Veteran
Hey she ate !
Rebel my bigger bp finally ate last night.
I was cleaning out all my rodent cages and i decided that i didnt need the trouble of two more mice that werent being used for anything anymore so i whacked two mice and put them in her cage, once again she didnt seem the least bit interested. It didnt matter how much or how long i dangled it in front of her she just wasnt havin it.
So i got mad, lifted up her hide, threw the mice in there with her and went out to dinner with some friends, about 4 hours later i come home expecting two smelly rigimortised mice to be in the cage with her ( i forgot to take them out before i left) but they were gone !!
I doubt they really satisfied her 3 foot very thick body but at least it was something.
Im switching back to pre killed, sometimes F/T can be a hassle so im just going to buy like ten mice and keep them until feeding time then ill whack and feed them to her . She does not seem interested in rats at all lately but next time im going to try it with a scented rat. Rebel has been fed mice from the time she was just a small hatchling and i just got her several months ago, she is very used to eating mice.( i got her from a reptile rescue)
I just thought i would share this with you guys for any people trying to get thier picky snakes to eat, just try putting it in the hide with them and leaving them alone for a couple hours. Worked for me
0.1 Albino Redtail Boa
0.1 Colombian Redtail Boa
0.2 Salmon Pastel Redtail Boa's
0.1 normal Ball Python
0.1 Ball Python.
0.1 Albino Ball Python
0.1 Amelanistic Corn Snake
1.0 Sonoran Gopher
1.0 Mexican black Kingsnake
0.1 Luecistic Texas rat snake

Re: Hey she ate !
I use aspen shavings as a substrate. Is it bad to leave a mouse in a cage and let the BP eat off the aspen in case they happen to ingest some? what do you use for substrate?

Re: Hey she ate !
you should not have any problems feeding on the aspen, if you like just put a piece of newspaper down and feed on that.

I've been feeding live on an aspen type bedding for many years without a problem. Their stomach acids are designed to break down all kinds of good stuff. You're fine!

Ditto that! Even though we use newspaper for our ball pythons due to ease of maintenance, I've used aspen with a variety of species for years & have never had a problem with it. IMHO, it's the safest wood-based substrate to feed on, comparatively speaking.
Congrats on Rebel eating!!!
