New cage smell
I assembled my brand new PVC cage about 2 weeks ago and I have been running it before I get my new BP. One thing I notice is a slight smell when I open the lexan door. The smell dissipates very quickly and I can't smell it shortly after the door has been open. I can close the door for a few hours and then smell it again. If I sniff around , the smell seems to be from the clear lexan plastic hinges. It seems like the same Oder as I get when I open the door. Each day that passes it seems to get less and less. The identical PVC cage I already have had for 2 years doesn't have that smell. Should I be concerned with this ?

Probably just some minor off gassing, if anything. It shouldn't be anything to worry about, and should dissipate over time.

I removed the door and washed it real good with water, It seems to be helping. I'm thinking a release agent was used to mold the hinges.

Re: New cage smell
Take out the door and let it air out for a few days. It definitely should go away.

It sure is weird.....I can smell all around in that cage and nothing has an odor. The door and mostly the hinges is the only thing I can pick up on a slight odor. I think its a combination of everything new that builds up after the door is shut for a while. I've been checking this for 2 weeks now and the new snake will be here very very soon. Overall, I feel it's ok. If something was real wrong...I would be able to directly smell it. I think I remember going through this with my first cage. I did hear a RHP could have some odor. My first one did let off a little for a very very short time but it wasn't the same. Well...if it was something bad, I would probably have a cool buzz about now, but I don't.

Quite possibly. What are you using to cut it? If it involves heat or friction, and thereby heat, there will be a smell.

The cage was just built and delivered to my house...I feel it's the clear door and hinges that are off gassing. My identical cage has no hint of odor to it but it probably did when it was brand new. I get the smell when the door is just opened after a few hours...then it's gone in a matter of seconds. It's not real harsh...it's a faint smell. Like plastic or something. Wonder if baking soda will work
